Balance Wheel – Meg Mulhearn [Fallen Moon Recordings]

Godai

Godai is a collaboration between choreographer/dancer Sara Baird and composer/violinist Meg Mulhearn. Baird and Mulhearn employ cyclical patterns and metamorphic transformations throughout their performance. Through music and choreography, they investigate the Greek goddess Hecate’s triadic nature alongside the Japanese Buddhist philosophy of godai (五大) or “the five greats”: earth, water, fire, wind, and the void. Godai is a mythological tale created for the modern age.

Godai premiered at Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in October 2015. Video Production by Studio Misha. This project was supported by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources, with funding from The National Endowment for The Arts. Additional thanks to Jenni Cockrell and Julie Becton Gillum who assisted in the creation of this work. For more info, please go to Anemone Dance Theater.
